A photovoltaic installation takes about two months on average. The first step is to conduct an energy study to size the photovoltaic installation and select the most suitable products. CleanTec Energy then submits the technical report to the city council, as well as the construction permits. Once the paperwork is completed, we begin installing the panels.

First, we install the supports where we will later mount the solar panels. Once the panels are in place, it’s time to install the electrical wiring and connect the system to the solar inverter. For a self-consumption installation with an annual energy demand of approximately 5,000 kW, the number of panels required for self-sufficiency typically ranges between 5 and 7 panels.

However, this calculation serves only as a general guideline. To determine the exact number of panels needed for your installation, several factors must be considered:

Power Output – The number of panels required is determined by dividing energy demand by the power rating of each panel. Higher power panels reduce the total number required.

 Performance – High-performance solar panels generate up to 25% more energy than lower-cost alternatives, making them ideal for limited spaces while maximizing output.

Annual Daylight Hours – Sunlight availability directly affects production. Installations in cloudy or shaded areas may require more panels to compensate for lower energy generation.

 Orientation & Location – For maximum efficiency, panels should be installed facing south at a 30-40° tilt. Roof positioning and available space also play a crucial role in determining the number of panels needed.

To carry out a solar panel installation, the first step is to hire an installation company that will handle all the paperwork, such as Solfy .

Once we’ve contacted the company, we’ll begin reviewing the procedures for installing self-consumption. 

These procedures are divided into two parts: the administrative procedures before installation and the procedures carried out after the panels are installed.

The steps to take before installing a photovoltaic system are as follows:

  • Preparation of a technical report: In the case of residential self-consumption installations, the installer must prepare a descriptive report of the project.
  • Access and network connection permits: On rural land, access permits will be required through our installer.
  • Responsible declaration of communication of works: This procedure replaces building permits in most of the Autonomous Communities. Therefore, all municipalities in the Autonomous Communities must notify the town councils of the construction work.
  • Prior administrative and construction authorization: This is only mandatory for large installations of more than 100kW.
  • Public and environmental utility authorization: as with administrative construction authorizations, this is only mandatory for high-consumption facilities.

The procedures to be carried out after installation are:

  • Completion certificate: The solar panel installation certificate must be presented for residential projects, and the signed completion certificate must be presented for large industrial projects.
  • Initial and periodic inspections: For large projects, an inspection by an Authorized Control Agency must be carried out; this is not required for low-voltage installations. 
  • Operating permit: This is a regional procedure similar to the installation certificate.
  • Surplus compensation contract: This is one of the procedures that may be of most interest to us. To offset the solar energy supplied to the grid, we must enter into a surplus compensation contract with the marketing company.

  • Inspection Requirements • Large projects must undergo an inspection by an Authorized Control Agency, but this is not needed for low-voltage systems.

  • Operating Permit • A regional approval similar to the installation certificate.

  • Surplus Compensation Contract • If you want to sell excess energy back to the grid, a contract must be signed with an electricity provider.
